Kimmy’s Story

Kimmy’s Story

February 24, 2015 in CK Vets, Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Wallaceburg

Kimmy is a very special dog. My husband first met Kimmy, a retriever mix, as a tiny pup from an animal shelter, and it was love at first sight. Later, they moved together from Australia to start a new life in Canada where Kimmy has thrived, particularly loving the snow!

True to her breed, Kimmy LOVES to eat. She loves to eat more than she loves anything else in the world, so we knew when Kimmy refused her breakfast that she definitely wasn’t feeling well. Later that day she vomited up an astonishing amount of carpet! We called Dr. Emily Durbin and brought Kimmy in to see her. We already knew Dr. Emily was an awesome vet, but we were thrilled at the level of care Kimmy received from all the CK Vets team members.

Unfortunately for Kimmy – she had some carpet left inside and had to have a foreign body surgery. Fortunately though, Dr. Emily is also a skilled surgeon. After the late night surgery, her dedicated technician stayed overnight to continue to monitor Kimmy.

Kimmy turned 12 last year and her age was probably one factor for why she didn’t bounce back from her surgery as quickly as we would’ve hoped. As worried as we were, we were greatly comforted by being able to see, first hand, the standard of care that Kimmy was receiving in hospital. Dr. Emily and her team monitored Kimmy extremely closely, performed many different diagnostic procedures to ensure we understood everything that was going on with her recovery, and collaborated with outside experts to get different perspectives on Kimmy’s care. Throughout everything, they kept us informed with regular updates, and welcomed us for our frequent visits to spend time with Kimmy.

After 10 days in the hospital, Kimmy came home and is doing absolutely fantastic. We can’t imagine our home and our family without Kimmy, and thanks to the team at CK Vets, we don’t have to!
