Therapeutic Laser Success Stories!

November 7, 2013 in CK Vets, Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Wallaceburg

We are very proud to have a Therapeutic Laser available for use at all of our clinics!  We have been offering  laser therapy since the beginning of 2013, and have been very excited with the results!  We are using the laser on a regular basis to treat a multitude of conditions, including arthritis, ligament tears, wound healing and pain

What is Therapeutic Laser?

A high energy light beam is applied to specific areas to promote tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.  Laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen and nutrients to the damaged cells.  Therapy accelerates healing and reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.  The result is improved function and pain relief.  Therapeutic laser is completely painless and non-invasive.

Cigano’s Success Story:

We all know how rambunctious puppies can be!  Cigano is a beautiful Fila Brasileiro who loved playing with his lab sister.  One day, Lucy managed to wiggle through a fence… and Cigano got caught when he tried to follow.  Poor puppy!  He was rushed into the hospital with a big gash along his inner thigh.  Because the wound was so fresh we were able to surgically repair the wound and Cigano went home the next day.  Happy ending!  Until the silly puppy decided he didn’t like resting, and jumped a VERY high fence and tore open his wound again.  OOPS!  Cigano had a second surgical repair, which also went very well… but, puppies being puppies, he was far to bouncy and that repair came open as well.  A surgical repair is ideal – managing open wounds can be very time consuming and messy.  But this puppy was just so bouncy that the owner elected to treat the wound as an open wound and allow it to heal with time.  To encourage and speed the healing process we started treating the area with our Therapeutic Laser.  Two days after the first treatment the wound had contracted by 50 %, and was looking great!  Keep in mind that this wound was HUGE in the beginning!  We can already see granulation tissue!

After a few more treatments, the wound had totally filled in…..Cigano was one happy boy and so was his owner!

We were amazed at the speed of healing.  These days you can barely even see a scar!

Mac’s Success Story:

mac

My name is Mac.  I am a 7 and a ½ year old neutered lab-terrier mix.  I have multiple health problems due mostly to severe allergies and maintenance prednisone use.  I have hip dysplasia (left hip) which unfortunately has worsened this year.  The end of May, I also hurt my right knee.  I was in such pain!  My left hip could not support my right knee and my right knee could not support my left hip.  I was put on pain medication at the end of May and started laser therapy.  By the middle of June I no longer needed pain medication and slowly could do more activities.  I now do maintenance therapy.  Now I can do my regular walks and play some ball (my two favourite activities!).  The first of August, I had to have surgery to remove one of my toes.  One spot would not heal.  Again, laser treatment saved me.  Within a few days the sore was healing nicely. – Mac

I can never thank Chatham-Kent Veterinary Corporation enough for bring laser therapy to their practices.  You have saved Mac from a painful, crippled life.  Thank you!  Thank you! – Marlene Adams (Mac’s loyal companion)
